Ideal diet

What is the ideal diet.


You will get a different answer in almost every book you read which gives the impression that all are either OK or all are bad.   But the universal rise of the incidence of chronic diseases today ( immune diseases, nerve diseases, cancers, vascular diseases) suggest that our diet is far from ideal.  For example in the year 1900, 3% of people develop cancer, today the incidence is almost 40%.
Because our cells are being continually replaced as they age ( every year almost all of our cells have turned over), the building blocks for these new cells is what we get from our food - what we eat becomes part of us. 
For many years we have been instructed to follow the food pyramid, with grains and cereals at the bottom and minimal fats and oils at the top:
There is no evidence that this is good, and no healthy society eats like this. Grains and cereals with sugar and gluten are far from good for us, and by removing fats, people have been forced into eating sugars which have caused today's epidemic of obesity.   The ideal food pyramid should probably be by turning the current one upside down.
Probably the best diet for most diseases is that eaten in the Mediterranean countries where their diet results in a very low incidence of heart disease and many others. The Mediterranean diet  is further discussed in this blog (click here). 





I like the division of foods into:
G - God made - good,  eat any of this
M - Man made - madness, avoid as much as possible. 

G - fruit and vegetables in abundance, as multicoloured as possible, meat, fish and eggs, nuts and seeds, and good fats - coconut, palm oil, olive oil, butter.   Try and make these God made foods as organic as possible, not GMO or with pesticides or hormones.  Do not overcook them.
M - We cannot improve on nature - avoid as much as possible - processed foods, trans fats, grains ( wheat, barley), white sugar, margarine.

This is the diet of our grandparents and their predecessors, who had very little heart disease or cancer.
